AirPatrol CEO Cleve Adams to lead discussion at Data Privacy Day 2015
Data Privacy Day, SAN DIEGO, CA. Jan 27, 2015 – As the number of devices connected to the Internet continues to grow exponentially, concerns about security and privacy are growing, too. As part of an international effort to raise awareness and education on the new challenges in protecting privacy and controlling one’s digital footprint, Cleve Adams, CEO of cybersecurity firm AirPatrol Corporation, will join CyberTECH and Securing Our eCity to host a security panel at Data Privacy Day, January 28, 2015 at the SDG&E Energy Innovation Center in San Diego, CA.
“During this age of the interconnection of all devices, trust is an interesting concept. Users are okay with some companies having their data, but absolutely do not want others or the government to have access to it,” Adams said. “Questions are arising about the privacy and security we give up with each device, but it doesn’t need to be that way.”
Adams has an extensive security background and has held a number of leadership roles dating back to the 1990’s including his role as a founding executive at cybersecurity pioneer, Websense. He will moderate the 3:30pm panel “Security, Privacy, and Trust in IoT Platforms.” Panelist speakers will include Charles Brooks (Xerox), Mike Coomes (Department of Defense), Lance Cottrell (Ntrepid), Alex Goryachev (Cisco), and Ted Harrington (Independent Security Evaluators). “The more that devices know about the user and what’s happening nearby, the better they can operate,” Adams said. “As a person’s private habits and information become part of the big data ecosystem, there is also a growing risk of data leaks and unintended consequences. I look forward to the opportunity to have a discussion with other thought leaders on how we can improve our world via the Internet of Things without completely surrendering our privacy and data security,” he said.
